Domaine La Garrigue
Domaine La Garrigue is a small family estate established in 1850 and the work of six generations of the Bernard family. Based in the heart of the Vacqueyras appellation – Southern Cote du Rhone. The average vine age is between 40 and 60 years old for the Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache Blanc, Cinsault and Clairette, while some of their Grenache vines are between 80 and 100 years old.
Vacqueyras enjoys a Mediterranean climate with lots of sunshine, low rainfall and the famous 'Mistral' wind that helps to keep the vines free of disease. We have chosen to import the top wine of the estate, made from the oldest vines and thus the most intense and powerfully flavoured wines.
Southern Rhone Valley - Vacqueyras AOC
Vacqueyras was upgraded from Cotes-du-Rhone-Village status to its own AOC in 1990 - and rightly so as the producers are making some very fine wines. The wines are known more for their power than their elegance. The style is generally dark, rich wine with the classic herbs and warm peppery spice of the Southern Rhône. Compared to Gigondas, the wines are slightly more restrained and rustic and are excellent value for money.
