Olivier Leflaive is based at Puligny-Montrachet in the heart of the ‘Côte de Beaune’ of Burgundy, home to some of the greatest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the world. The Domain now covers some 35 hectares across the Burgundy region, producing a dizzying number of different wines from tiny sub-plots. His wines are made with traditional first class Burgundian methods resulting in wines of finesse, elegance and complexity.
Burgundy is about purity and personifies the concept of terroir - where the character of wines produced from different vinyards mere meters apart can be profoundly different. Neighbouring towns of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassange-Montrachet are great examples of this where the Chassagne wines are more opulent and round compared to the bright and focussed Puligny. Volnay produces delicate Pinot Noir wines with an etheral quality, just a stones throw from Pommard that boasts more rich and powerful wines. We have chosen a handful of our favourites from around 50 different wines made by Olivier Leflaive. Revisit Michael's Burgundy Blog on our experiences.
