Babich Hawkes Bay Syrah

$19.00 / unit (case of 12)
Country / Region: Hawkes Bay
Vineyard: Babich
Varietal: Syrah
Vintage: 2016

A smooth, fresh, peppery style of Syrah from estate owned vineyards in both the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle regions of Hawke's Bay

Babich Wines, founded a century ago by Croatian immigrant Josip Babich, remains a family business to this day, producing varietal wines from estate and contract vineyards around the country.

Fermented in stainless steel, receiving extended time on skins to promote tannin extraction, then 11 months in French oak prior to blending and bottling. Purple in colour, aromas of black plum, black pepper, and subtle green herbs. Light and bright fruit on the front palate, with smooth spice on the finish making it an easy sipper.

Tasting notes

15 September 2014 by Michael Hutton

Deep and dark nose of blackberry, raspberry and white pepper spice.  Also showing hints of subtle vanilla and savoury clove aromas.  Inky and concentrated on the palate with appealing succulent tannin and more concentrated dark fruits.  Drinking nicely now, but still youthful in overall appearance, this could be enjoyed for several years to come.  Match with steak or barbecue dishes.  Great value!
