Rich, deep, complex and still youthful Barolo

DOCG. Barolo is a red wine DOCG growing region in the Piedmont region of north western Italy. In order to call a wine 'Barolo' it must come from inside this region. Barolo is made with 100% Nebbiolo. The Barolo vineyard zone covers the parishes of Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and Barolo itself, and also spreads over into parts of Monforte d'Alba, Novello, La Morra, Verduno, Grinzane Cavour, Diano d'Alba, Cherasco and Roddi. This wine is from the commune of Monforte d'Alba. In the Monforte region, the vineyards are planted on looser and less fertile, Helvetian soils, which include both sandstone and limestone. This leads to a brick-colored wine which is more intense, bigger in structure and requires a longer time to age. The region's wines offers rich, concentrated characteristics and serious intensity. To earn the name Barolo, the wines must undergo at least 38 months' aging prior to commercial release, of which 18 must be spent in barrel (the remainder in bottle). For the added designation of riserva, the total aging time increases to 62 months. As the tannins soften over time, the complexity shows through with hints of earth, truffles and dark chocolate.

Aromatic nose of earth floor, burnt rubber, cedar and cherries. On the palate the barnyard notes continue, with good fruit and a stylish elegance. At more than twelve years old this Barolo can still be considered very youthful and could go another 10 years in a cellar. Crazy high tannins, medium acidity, medium body and a powerful finish, this wine is intense.
