Dense, juicy Grenache from 100 year old vines.

Grenache (or Garnacha in Spain) is grown widely in Southern France and Spain where it thrives in hot dry climates. In the middle of Spain wizened old gnarled bush vines produce small yields but powerful dense and strong flavoured wines.

Bodegas Aragonesa is a 28 year old emergent wine cellar and has become the main wine cellar of the Campo de Borja appelation. The Campo de Borja appelation has a long winemaking history that goes back to the 12th century when the Cistercian Monks of the Veruela Monastery began to cultivate vines and make wine. This region is known for its limestone soil, low water retention, and a Continental climate with Mediterranean influence in the summer. It's no surprise that their prized red grape Garnacha thrives in this region. Garnacha is full of fruit but has a tendency to lack acid, tannin and color which can make the wine feel as if it has no structure. But the Garnacha Centenaria is made from 100 year old vines which produce low yields and provide beautifully concentrated fruit with structure in their age. After fermentation this wine is aged for 4 months in new french oak.

The color of the wine is alluring, the nose is dark plums, strawberries, cherries, spice, leather, tar, and sweet vanilla. The palate is weighted with supple red and blue fruit. There is spice and a creaminess that isrounded out by a gracefully tannic finish.

Delicious dark plummy fruits on the nose, with hints of vanilla spice, leather and red liquorice. Rich and seamless palate, dark fruits, dusty cedary oak and boysenberry jam. 5 stars from Raymond Chan.
