Gorgeous high quality Bannockburn Central Otago Pinot Noir

Bannockburn Central Otago

Bannockburn in Central Otago is often called 'The Heart of the Desert' - being one of the hottest, coldest, and driest parts of the country.  The land transformed over the 1860's with the combination of the the harsh climate and the aggressive sluicing by gold mining operations stripping away most of the vegetation leaving the barren landscape of the Cromwell basin.

Desert Heart

Carved off the Mt Difficulty sheep station, the Reserve Pinot comes from a special block on Felton Road. This plot produces stunning Pinot Noir.  Since this vintage the vineyard area has been bought by Kiwi film legend Sam Neill.

Tasting Note

The 'Mackenzies Run' is the Reserve wine of the stable, made in small quantities from very high quality parcels of fruit. Fermented on natural yeasts with a portion of whole bunch, aged for 12 months in French oak, 30% new.

Cuisine rated it 4.5 stars when bottled two years ago, and has improved since then offering abundant aromas of deep black cherry, hints of dark cocoa, charred meat and spicy cedary oak. Bright acidity up front melding savoury dark fruit and chocolate with aromatic green herbs velvety tannins and a lingering minerality.
