Maison Noire Cabernet Franc

Country / Region: Hawkes Bay
Vineyard: Maison Noire
Varietal: Cabernet France
Vintage: 2014

'Franc' from the Hawkes Bay, made in tiny volumes by artisan French winemaker

Cabernet Franc is most famous in the Loire Valley of France where it produces dry and savoury reds. True to varietal form, this is made with some stem influence and aged in French oak about 20% new.  Inspired by the Loire Valley versions of the grape, pale crimson in colour. Pleasing scents of blackberry, sweet red cherry, potpourri and lavender. In the mouth, flavours of fresh red currants, cherry and leather, with subtle nutty & woody notes in the mid-palate. Quite light in body and very little tannin makes it a wine that would be overpowered by a steak and better suited to lighter fare.
