Maison Noire Cabernet Sauvignon
Great Cabernet from a new Hawkes Bay producer
Cabernet Sauvignon is the happy result of an accidental crossing between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in the 17th Century. Fast forward to now, and it is one of the most prestigious and widely planted red grapes in the world. It likes a warm climate, and can struggle in New Zealand, but in cracker years like 2013, we can find some great examples. From a brand new estate, Maison Noire, located near Waimarama, Guillaume Thomas, a French winemaker, has set up shop, and is making some very exciting, and fantastically priced wines. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is ages 24 months in French oak, and shows great density and complexity.
