Mystree Reserve Chardonnay
Geoff and Carol Reed have created a unique corner of Martinborough, 3km further down Dry River Road from Murdoch James, recently built an exquisite boutique bed & breakfast surrounded by 100 olive trees and 2,000 Chardonnay vines. The cool micro-climate means late ripening times but result in beautiful wines.
The Reserve Chardonnay is made with minimum intervention, barrel fermented from a blend of Mendoza and 95 clones. Only two barrels made, 50% new oak.
Pale gold colour, almost clear on the rim. Aromas of caramel, lemon pith, freshly buttered toast and sage and toasted cashews. Delicate in flavour, peach, almonds, candy-corn, savoury finish. Light palate weight initially, building across the palate with a fat and creamy oiliness on the finish. Rated 4 stars by Raymond Chan (17+/20)
