Passage Rock Reserve Cabernet Merlot

Country / Region: Waiheke Island
Vineyard: Passage Rock
Varietal: Cabernet Merlot
Vintage: 2013

Big Cabernet blend from Waiheke Island

Only made when the vintage conditions allow, the Reserve Cabernet Merlot is made from Passage Rock's Waiheke vineyards.  85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 5% Malbec, the 2013 vintage was the longest and hottest summer in 20 years resulting in a dark and intense wine full of power.  Aged in small oak barriques for 15 months with good richness and length.

Inky black-purple in colour right to the rim which hints at the concentration of the wine, aromas of cigar box, black currant, olive tapenade, tar with some subtle rose petal. Deliciously smooth on the palate, cedar and black cherry with a lingering finish. Drink now or any time in the next 5+ years.
