Country / Region: Wairarapa

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Very good local Sav

Daniele Alemagna was born in Northern Italy, raised in Switzerland, and after emigrating to New Zealand, ran a boutique hotel in Wellington. He was seduced by the vines over the hill, and purchased Pond Paddock, a small established vineyard on the Te Muna terrace, just outside Martinborough. They produce Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, and the wines created have a European style to them. His Sauvignon Blanc is lively, but with finesse and roundness to it. Martinborough Sauvignon Blancs have always been a little riper and a little gentler with the acid than their Marlborough counterparts, and the low yielding fruit from Pond Paddock also gives this wine great concentration and texture.
