Natural pear fruit on the nose and a faint floral blush, this has a slight nutty note on the palate and a hint of sweet tangerine.
Lucious Whites
Luscious Whites include white wines that are moderate to low in acidity or has had malolactic fermentation making the wines luscious, creamy, or soft. Includes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Gewurztraminer.
Alexia is a relatively small winery in Northern Wairarapa, and home to NZ winemaker Jane Cooper. Jane’s winemaking career first started with Seifried in Nelson, but also overseas in Chile, Italy and Australia. Her wines are hand crafted and good value.
The Pinot Gris comes from vines close the winery near Masterton, it’s a fragrant off-dry style - a bit of sweetness in the mouth but a relatively clean finish with oodles of peach, pear, and toasted almonds in the mouth.
Its had a touch of barrel ferment that gives a bit more texture and depth. Still, its enjoyed young, abd I’d consider serving this with roasted pork with an apricot & nutty stuffing. Solid Four stars from Michael Cooper.
This has had just a whisper of oak and shows appealing fruit character. Peach, melon and a slight cereal note on the nose, this has lovely fresh fruit character and just the right amount of creaminess.
Yet another impressive wine from Alpha Domus. This aromatic Viognier has lifted notes of apricot, stonefruit, citrus and subtle oaky spice. Luscious palate of stonefruits and citrus, with a nice touch of subtle oak. Great balance and texture, with a long apricot and spice finish. Great summer drinking!
To start the new year we thought we'd try something new. From Kiwi winemaker Matt Thomson comes the Alpha Zeta Soave 2009. This easy-going wine offers a new oersoective on the traditional whites that are produced in Verona, Italy. Clean and crisp with a gentle, and somewhat nutty, nose of white pettles leads to a smooth palate that is finished off with some zesty acidity. A great 'ready-now' Summer wine
that will help ease you back in to the short, but sweet, working week.
Bright, fruit-driven nose of melon, pineapple, stonefruit and a hint of spicy oak. Finely structured flavours of peach and apricot, banana and honeydew on the palate. Medium bodied with excellent persistence.
Perfume and stone-fruit aromas with delicate spice and citrus notes sitting elegantly together on the nose. Not just about the apricot, this Viognier has more to offer, with savoury hints to back up the fruit. The palate has luscious texture with a rounded mouth-feel and dry finish.
Rich aromas of meal and honey, melon and stone-fruit with underlying aniseed on the nose. The palate displays more mealy notes, with nectarine, caramel and juicy orange. Medium bodied with good length of flavour, and good palate weight. Match with poultry or pork dishes with ease!
Melon and stonefruit nose with notes of straw and toasty oak, this is soft textured with just a schmear of butter. This is the most elegant Chardonnay Askerne has produced so far!
This is a drier style of gewurz, with a focussed, musky nose, rose and turkish delight on the palate and a long, warming spicy finish. Much awarded wine at a great price!
