Declassified Cru Classe Sauternes - beautiful & classic example. 80% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, high botrytis influence.

When the top houses have fruit that doesn't quite make the grade for their top tier wines, it gets declassified to the negociant houses. This is made and bottled at the original estate Chateau Guiraud (Premier Grand Cru Classe) and has most of what you'd expect from a Sauternes at 5 times the price.

Rich, complex wine. The bouquet of bitter orange, apricot jam with a hint of cloves and elegant toasty notes. Creamy, with toastiness at every stage of the tasting, the palate is well-balanced and long, offers a touch of fruity freshness at the finish. Excellent Sauternes.

Sichel Sauternes, crafted by one of the most prestigious classified growths of the appellation, enjoys the same meticulous, very special care that goes into producing the top botrytised wines of this renowned appellation. Here, the Sémillon and Sauvignon combine harmoniously to offer a highly expressive bouquet of citrus notes and jammy fruit with a hint of honey. Over an ample, richly extracted base, the palate displays a many-layered, persistent aromatic array of jammy orange and dried fig notes. Drink very chilled, with a seasonal fruit salad or blue cheese, for example.

Situated some 40 kilometers south east of Bordeaux, between the Garonne river and the Landes forest to the south, the Sauternes vineyard produces what many wine experts and wine lovers believe to be, quite simply, the best sweet white wine in the world. 50 year old vines.

Cellar for 8 to 12 years.

Bordeaux makes mostly red wines, and is the ancestral home of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The sub regions are driven by soil types, those on the 'Left Bank' featuring bold Cabernet based blends from stony-gravel soils. The Right bank produces more supple Merlot based blends from clay & limestone. From easy drinking everyday wines to some of the most exclusive wines in the world.
