Giordano Riserva Primitivo di Manduria
Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) from Southern Italy, juicy and easy sipping red
While it might be old, it's anything but 'Primitive'. The grape Primitivo means 'early riser' as it buds early compared to other grapes. It thrives in hot and settled weather conditions, which accurately describes its ancestral home of South Eastern Italian region of Puglia.
For those more familiar with Californian wines, it has been proven that Primitivo is identical to Zinfandel, and sports vibrant fruit, relatively low acid and flavours not unlike Shiraz. This version is produced from the town of Minervino di Lecce, near the South-Eastern tip of Italy on the Salento peninsula.
5 stars and 94 points from Sam Kim of Wine Orbit: "This is fabulously ripe and sweetly fragrant on the nose showing blackberry, plum jam, vanilla pod and milk chocolate characters with subtle spice and hazelnut notes. The palate is succulent and sumptuous, offering terrific fruit richness and velvety texture, leading to a gorgeous silky finish."
