Domaine Juliette Avril Cairanne
Cairanne is the newest 'Cru' appellation of the Southern Rhone - elevated from a 'Cotes du Rhone Villages' to its own appellation in 2018. It is considered the 'Baby Chateauneuf du Pape'. As with all of the "Cru" of the Southern Rhone this is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and other native Rhone grape varieties.
Domaine Juliette Avril is a family winery of four generations in the heart of Chateauneuf - growing for centuries in the region and helped to create the rules of the appellation in 1928. The vineyards are the classic mix of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and small amounts of the other 10 grape varieties permitted. An impressive half of the vines are over 50 years old.
The Cairanne from Juliette Avril is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Pretty and elegant style, featuring prunes, thyme, and red licorice. Medium bodied, delicate sweet red fruits through the mid palate with surprisingly good length and complexity.
