Cair Ribera del Duero Cuvee
The new vintage has arrived from Spain. From Ribera del Duero - Tempranillo blended with a little Merlot.
Cair is an ultra-modern winery in with old vineyards in the exceptional Ribera del Duero wine region. Owning 24 hectares of vines and controlling another 70 hectares in the region, an average age of 45 year old vines with many reaching over 100 years old. Using organic methods and yields are strictly managed vine by vine.
The grapes that produce Cair Cuvée originate from very low yielding vines, aged between 20-25 years old, and planted at an altitude of 900m above sea level. The harvest is performed by hand, ensuring that maximum care is taken to not damage the grapes.
Once in the winery, a double selection of the grapes is completed: the best bunches and the best grapes. After, the grapes are destemmed.
The must for Cair Cuvée is fermented in stainless steel vats for a process of 15 days.
The wines is aged for 9 months in French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels: 1st and 3rd year barrels. The wine is then subsequently bottled and rested for 6 months.
Suckling has rated the 2018 vintage 92/100 - Excellent.
Dark ruby colour, aromas of cinnamon, lavender and blackberries and black forrest fruits. Good fruit up front, the merlot softening the spicy tannins. Coffee, chocolate and balsamic showing on the palate. Long pleasing finish.
