Spade Oak Petit Manseng
Petit Manseng heralds originally from the 'Sud-Ouest' France, and pretty much as South-West as you can get in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the Spanish Border. The 'Jurançon' wine region this grape is king, and grown alongside it's cousin Gros Manseng. Many would consider the 'Petit' version superior to the 'Fat' version with more intense flavours. The bankers would likely disagree due to its low yields.
Petit Manseng produces small amounts of 'petit' grapes with thick skins (intense flavour), loose bunches (resistant to rot and botrytis), and its high natural acidity lends itself to late picking. It can make diverse styles of wines ranging from bone dry to super-sweet. Look for nutty and spicy tropical fruit flavours.
Fermented in tank, and spending 5 months maturing in seasoned oak. Only 500 bottles (375ml) made!
This is a complex wine with aromas of woodsmoke, toasted almonds, guava, pineapple, and burnt honey. Dry to taste, with tangy and rich savoury mid-palate and spicy finish. Very interesting wine.
Try it with seared prawns with coriander and garlic, drizzled with some good olive oil.
