Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2006 375 ml

About Kerpen
After almost 250 years, and for eight generations, viticulture has run in the Kerpen family. Riesling is grown exclusively on around 8 hectares made up of several named vineyards: Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, Bernkasteler Bratenhöfchen and Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The interplay of Moselle slate, south-southwest aspect, minerality and climate is unique. The result is wines with a fine play between fruit and acidity, a low alcohol content and a long life. After carefully selecting the grapes by hand, they are gently pressed. Then the must fermented in wooden barrels and matured to dry, fine-dry, fruit sweet or noble sweet wines.

5 Stars - Raymond Chan 19-/20

Bright, light golden yellow colour. This has a fully interwoven and layered bouquet with a broad spectrum of citrus fruit aromas, of ripe limes, mandarins and oranges melded with wild honey and marmalade, musk, caramel, toffee and toasted nuts. This is well botrytised with decadent fruit along with some bottle development complexity. Very rich and luscious on palate and nearly over the top, this has bold and brazen flavours of ripe orange fruit infused with musk, marmalade, honey, cream and caramel. The palate has great presence and mouthfilling, coating unctuousness, forming a decadent and dense core. Yet the thread of acidity is bright and penetrating, offering a degree of cut and drive. This has layer of complexity and opulence in an up-front style, suggesting signs of development. A meditation wine, to enjoy over the next 10-15 years. 8.5% alc., 189 g/L RS. (375ml) 19.0-/20 Mar 2014
