Domaine Rewa Riesling

Zesty Central Otago Riesling - citrus and honey

"Central" is famous for it's Pinot Noir, but lesser known are their excellent aromatic white wines. Today we have opened up a beautiful Riesling from a craft producer - Domaine Rewa. This is a tiny family owned vineyard of just one 5.5 hectares, nestled beneath the foothills of the Pisa Range. Production each year is between 800-900 cases of wine per year and that is split between four different wines... the Riesling accounts for just 133 cases!

Rewarewa is a NZ native tree with an abundance of red flowers full of nectar. At a distance it can be mistaken for Rata or Pohutukawa due to the bright red blossoms. Early European settlers named it 'New Zealand honeysuckle' - and produces a honey similar in colour and flavour to Manuka... apt with the honey flavours in the Riesling.

Produced from a single vineyard, hand picked and whole bunch pressed. Pale gold in colour, bright aromas of orange peel, lime juice, and honeysuckle. Lively in the mouth with a tangy freshness, mouthwatering with flavours of lemon-honey, subtle jasmine and savoury herbs with hints of nuts, and a minerality finishing surprisingly dry considering the 25g/L sweetness of the wine.
