Element 'The Topographer' 2014
Our new discovery out of the Hawkes Bay - and a back vintage too at an unreasonably great price. A bit coy on the detail of the contents, but we're pretty certain that it's a blend of mostly Merlot with smaller portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and a dash of Malbec and Syrah.
A 'Topographer' is someone who studies the surface of the land, especially the natural features for the purpose of creating maps. Certainly this is of paramount importance for creating quality wine, as is the underlying soils.
Aromas of cedar, spiced black plum, blackberry, and Herbes de Provence. Medium bodied, fully dry with rich dark fruit driving the front palate mixing with beef bouillon, bay leaf, and clear toasty oak influences on the finish. Superb for the dollars and a good reflection of the strong 2014 vintage for Hawkes Bay.
