Estandon Brise Marine Red

New import for Wineseeker - a cheapie fruity red wine from Provence.

Made from a blend of Cabernet, Grenache, and Syrah, from very ripe fruit harvested by machine at night and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks making this something of a juice bomb.

Aromas of ripe blackberries and baked cherries tempered with violets and a twist of Provencal herbs. Dry on the palate but with plenty of dark fruit, and a lick of kalamata olives on the savoury finish with light tannins.

Classic Bandol Rouge - mouth filling savoury red from Provence

Provence in the South of Frane is world famous for producing epic dry Rosé that makes up around 90% of all wine in the region.

Wineseeker has been importing wines from Estandon Vignerons in Provence for the last two years, always centered on their Rosé wines. They are a major Co-operative based in the town of Brignole, sourcing their grapes from an impressive 250 different small growers in different sub-regions of Provence.

The specific location of the vineyards and the quality of the fruit determines which of the Estandon wines they go into. Over the last 9 years Estandon wines have won 163 medals which is a credit to their high focus on quality.

Legend has it that Phoenician ships were carried by a steady sea breeze (Brise Marine) from what is now Lebanon to the Mediterranean coast of Provence in the 6th Century BC, bringing with them knowledge of grape growing and winemaking. As a result it is likely the oldest origin of wine in France.

The fruit for the 'Rouge' come from the foothills of the Massif des Maures - a low mountain range that stretches 56km across Provence. The hills are home to an abundance of oak and chestnut, pine, juniper, heather, rosemary and lavender. On the sides are cultivated olives, figs, citrus, and of course wine grapes, grown in the thin schist and silty slopes bathed in hot summer sunshine.
