Farnese Fantini Sangiovese - Wineseeker

Farnese Fantini Sangiovese

Quaffable and affordable Italian Red

Fantini wines are based in Abruzzo, part of the larger Farnese family wines, with vineyards in several regions in Italy. Sangiovese is the main red grape grown in the mountainous Terre di Chieti, and this wine is a fruit forward, modern example of the classic Tuscan grape. The grapes for this wine are planted on a south-east facing slope on clay-limestone soil. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel before 15% is aged in oak barrels. We've been fans of the Fantini wines and their easy drinking style here in store for a while now, and this wine has also been praised in past vintages by critics, especially at its price, earning 4.5 stars from Wine Orbit.

The new 2016 vintage is reddish-purple in colour, aromas of sweet baked fruits melding with a touch of smoky campfire. Typical Sangiovese flavours of tart red cherry, a touch of baking chocolate, plum with a light dry finish.
