Geographico Borgo alla Terra Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Tuscany is home to some of the most famous of Italian wines. Tuscan wines are predominantly red, especially those made from Sangiovese that make up the core of the iconic Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. The beautiful town of San Gimignano lies roughly equidistant from Pisa, Florence, and Siena, an old and famous wine area.
San Gimignano as a town dates back to the third century BC as an Etruscan village, one of many stunning hilltop towns, and famous for its 14 towers, where others across the region have largely been destroyed by war, earthquakes, or urban renewal.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano is the only white wine of Italy to reach DOCG status, made from an ancient Vernaccia grape at least 800 years old, producing crisp, salty, citrusy, savoury dry white wines. While it must be dominant in Vernaccia, modern examples can include small amounts of Trebbiano, Malvasia, even Sauvignon and Riesling.
From the important Tuscan Co-Op producer 'Geographico', made from 100% Vernaccia grapes.
Pale gold in colour, aromas of fragrant preserved lemon, marzipan, frangipani, and damp clay. Dry on the palate, mouth filling texture, slightly earthy with a salty finish.
