Gibbston Valley Glenlee Pinot Noir - Wineseeker

Gibbston Valley Glenlee Pinot Noir

Single vineyard wine from Gibbston Valley

Close planted with 6000 vines per hectare, Glenlee vineyard was once a sheep station. In the highest eastern corner of this north facing site, there is a band of glacial outwash and river gravels that ensures vine balance, an open canopy, lignified stems and ripe fruit. This shows Gibbston's fruit clarity as its best, combining fragrance with concentration and structure; all a derivation of close planting. From this section, the Glenlee Single Vineyard is chosen, and a high proportion of whole clusters used in the ferment. After a natural yeast fermentation and three weeks in cuvaision, the wine was pressed in oak (30% new) for malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled after 10 months in barrel without and cold stabilising, fining or filtration.

“The beauty of Gibbston threads through this wine. From its delightful bouquet to its wistful lingering thread of tannin, it embodies the site and region. With its languid silky front palate, offset by brambly, whole cluster tanginess, the Glenlee Pinot Noir has considerable complexity. Smoky earth flavours wrap around immaculate fruit, giving a rustic, rural sophistication to the wine.”
