Il Faggio Montepulciano
Montepulciano [pronounced Mon-Teh-Pull-Chi-Ahn-Oh] is the second most widely planted grape in Italy (behind Sangiovese, the main grape in Chianti), and by far the most prolific in the Abruzzo region.
As a grape it is known for producing deeply coloured, soft flavoured wines with supple tannins. If there was ever a classic Italian wine to enjoy with typical Kiwi-Italian cuisine like bolognese, pizza, dishes with tomato based sauces- 'Monty' is a safe bet.
Grown in the hills and flat vineyards around the town of San Salvo in Abruzzo. High quality fruit largely hand harvested, destemmed and warm fermented, pumped over to increase extraction of flavour and tannin, unoaked.
Aromas of blueberries, irises and black cherries. Medium bodied with smooth and juicy fruit yielding to savoury finish with chocolate coated cherries.
Il Faggio is the name of a particular type of beech tree grown widely in the eastern Italy, especially in the Abruzzo national park. It is considered as much of a symbol of the Abruzzo region as the Montepulciano grape that grows so abundantly there.
