Kerpen Wehlener Kabinett Riesling
From the region of Mosel, Germany. From the famous "Sun Dial" vineyard. Incredibly steep and rocky it produces some of the Mosel’s most elegant and esteemed wines. Kabinett is the first of the Prädikatswein ripeness/quality levels and can be literally translated as the Kitchen Cabinet, where wines are kept for everyday drinking. 9% Alcohol.
Martin Kerpen produces outstanding wines from his 6 hectares on steep slate soils. A fine mineral quality and perfectly balanced acidity make this elegant and appealing.
91/100 Vinous, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"An alluring nose of fresh apple wreathed in apple blossom, honeysuckle and heliotrope sets the tone for a delicate, tender, subtly creamy palate impression both refreshingly juicy and haunted by seductive inner-mouth perfume. The finish, at once soothing and stimulating, does a remarkable job even by Mosel Riesling standards of hiding and harnessing nearly 50 grams of residual sugar. That this harbors 9 percent alcohol is an indication of just how high the must weight was before Kerpen felt that the flavors met his Kabinett standards, and also helps explain why he stopped the fermentation with relatively high residual sugar."
90/100 James Suckling, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Attractive peachy fruit, citrusy acidity and a light touch make this an immediately attractive wine. Best now or in 2018 and 2019."
