Omaka Springs Merlot

Omaka Springs Estates Merlot is aged for 10 months in 20% new American Oak barriques. This cool climate example of the varietal is medium bodied, displays vibrant ruby red to plum hues and is full of tempting berry flavours. It is well structured, showing great fruit depth balanced with a gentle influence of oak and presenting softly integrated tannins. Cases Produced: 575 Alcohol: 13.5% Brix at Harvest: 21 Residual Sugar: <1 g/l Reviews Moderately weighty wine with plum, berry, pepper and mint flavours. Nicely structured Merlot that offers good drinking now but will develop with another year or two in the bottle. Bob Campbell. 4 Stars, Wine Orbit Magazine (NZ) "This is a delightful expression of the variety showing dark plum, game and nutty characters. The medium-bodied palate is ripe and smooth with appealing fruit intensity and fine-grained tannins. It's well balanced and silky to the finish." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit Magazine (NZ) 86 points, Wine Advocate Magazine (US) "Deep garnet-purple-colored, the 2011 Merlot has a nose of red and black currants, mulberries and wild blueberry with underlying Mediterranean herb, black pepper and menthol hints. Medium-bodied with a good amount of youthful and primary black fruit, it has well-managed, soft tannins, a refreshing acid line and a medium to long, herb-laced finish." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, Wine Advocate Magazine (US)
