Petersen and Sturt Shiraz
Coonawarra lies at the far South-East corner of South Australia, right on the border with Victoria. Being more coastal, the climate here is slightly cooler than Barossa so the wines here are a touch less jammy on average while retaining plush juicy fruit characteristics.
Coonawarra is a small region defined by its unique soils - a single strip of land 1km wide and 12km long The soils are also different here- 'Terra Rossa' consists of iron-rich red/brown topsoil over soft limestone. There's a good reason why the wider region is called 'The Limestone Coast'.
Grown on a small single block, purple-red in colour, sporting aromas of blackberries, sandalwood, and that distinctive Aussie Eucalyptus.
Baked black fruits on the palate, a good lick of charred meat and juicy black olives makes it a flavourful wine with a slightly chalky finish.
Aussie Shiraz without the jam-jar, and restrained oak makes it a good foil to most grilled meats.
