Spade Oak Heart Of Gold Albarino
Review by Raymond Chan for 2016 Vintage
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, a little lighter on the edge. This has an initially elegant and restrained nose with finely concentrated aroma of white florals and subtle white stonefruit notes, citrus fruit elements and saline minerals at the core. The aromatics build in depth and volume with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is lively and vibrant with a well-packed core of white florals, citrus and stonefruits, underlined by saline and mineral elements. This has a positive and near-unctuous mouthfeel, balanced by light phenolic textures and background racy acidity. The wine has good fruit depth and presence, and carries to a long, lingering aromatic finish with floral and mouthwatering mineral notes. This is a softly refreshing, dry Albarino with floral and mineral flavours and plenty of presence, light textures and mouthwatering linearity. 100% Albarino (and some Alvarinho) from the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard, fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 4.3 g/L RS, TA 7.56 g/L and pH 3.14, the wine aged 2 months on gross lees and 4 months on light lees. 17.5/20
