Tinpot Hut Chardonnay
While Hawkes Bay tends to grab the headlines for Chardonnay in New Zealand, Marlborough actually produces a higher volume due to the far larger size of the region overall, even Chardonnay accounts for less than 4% of total Marlborough wine.
This version comes from Tinpot Hut - founded by winemaker Fiona Turner in the Awatere region of Marlborough. The fruit for their Chardonnay is sourced from the Raupara and Southern Valleys sub-regions.
The 2016 vintage in Marlborough was characterised by a long, warm, and very dry summer, with moderate yields and intense flavours.
The Tinpot Hut Chardonnay was pressed straight to barrel for fermentation, aged on lees for 10 months. Aromas of nectarine, vanilla, riverstone, and green mango. Nice texture and mouthfeel, with the oak clearly showing through on the finish.
