Young Bacchus 100 Years
Ununsual for Martinborough (far more famous for Pinot Noir) - Young Bacchus is a small boutique winery making Bordeaux style wines, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon along with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This is produced on a tiny 0.6 hectare vineyard, densely planted 30 year old vines.85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, matured for 12 months in 50% new oak.
The 2015 vintage was harvested in the early morning on ANZAC day, and is created as an homage to the 100 year anniversary of the ANZACs in the First World War. Only 700kg of fruit was harvested, producing 600 bottles.
Medium-Full bodied, earthy and savoury green herbs, black currant, cigar box and blackberry. More Bordeaux-like than a typical fruity Hawkes Bay style wine. Enjoy with roast lamb, or tuck away in the cellar for several years for further evolution.
