Marc Bredif is a benchmark in Vouvray - a 100+ year legacy in the heart of the appellation with traditional troglodyte cellars dug deep into the limestone soil. The Bredif wines have become well known in New Zealand through a combination of consistent quality but also their occasional releases of back-vintage wines that showcase the ageability of Chenin Blanc as a top-tier wine style.
Chenin's secret is that when treated with respect in the vineyard, it ages spectacularly well in the cellar. It's not just red wines that improve with age!
They have two tiers of quality that they release: the 'Classic' is their main estate wine, ever so slightly off-dry and an excellent example of what Vouvray is all about. Their upper tier wines are only made in particularly good years and labeled as 'Grande Année' - a semi-sweet style.
The 1990 vintage in Vouvray is rated by Wine Spectator as 90 points, an excellent year.
